Claude SEO is a free SEO plugin for Claude Code. Give it any website and it runs a full SEO audit in 10 to 15 minutes, then hands you a clear action plan, sorted by what matters most.

It checks everything a good SEO consultant would:

  • Technical SEO. Crawlability, indexing, sitemaps, robots.txt, redirects, page speed and Core Web Vitals.
  • Content quality. E-E-A-T (experience, expertise, authority and trust), thin pages and topic coverage.
  • Structured data. Finds, validates and writes Schema.org markup for rich results.
  • AI search (GEO). How likely Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini are to cite your pages.
  • Local and e-commerce SEO. Google Business Profile, reviews, map pack, product pages and international sites.

Claude SEO is built from 26 sub-skills and 19 specialist agents, and up to 17 agents work on your site at the same time. Every recommendation explains why it matters and how you will know it worked.

Real results

The project's own site, claude-seo.md, audited with Claude SEO from day one: 10.8K Search Console clicks in its first 12 weeks and a 99 mobile PageSpeed score.

Real results: Google Search Console showing 10.8K clicks and 324K impressions for a new site between 23 March and 12 June 2026, next to a PageSpeed Insights report scoring 99 for performance and 100 for SEO.

  • Freelance SEO consultants who want to run an audit on the first call and show a real score and the top fixes before writing a proposal.

Pricing

Same items, two shops: an agency charges for an SEO audit, reporting, calls and a retainer while Claude SEO charges nothing. Over year one the agency total reaches $106,500. Illustrative pricing.

Typical market prices, for illustration. Your numbers may differ.

How an audit works

  1. It learns your site. Claude SEO detects the type of business (SaaS, local, e-commerce, publisher or agency) and adjusts its checks.
  2. The team fans out. Up to 17 specialist agents audit the site in parallel: technical, content, schema, speed, AI search and more.
  3. You get a plan, not a pile of warnings. Findings are scored and sorted into a prioritized action plan. Each recommendation says what it is based on, what it depends on and how you will know it worked.

Reports are saved as Markdown, and /seo google report turns them into a polished PDF.

Benjamin Samar (Co-Founder and Technical Director) is displayed on the page

Install

Installing Claude SEO: add the marketplace, install the plugin, 26 skills and 19 agents arrive, /seo setup readies the browser, then /seo audit starts the first level.

You need Claude Code 1.0.33 or newer. Run these three commands inside it:

/plugin marketplace add AgriciDaniel/claude-seo
/plugin install claude-seo@agricidaniel-claude-seo
/seo setup

/seo setup prepares everything Claude SEO needs (its own Python environment and a headless browser) without touching the rest of your system. Run /seo doctor any time to check it.

Manual install: macOS and Linux
Manual install: macOS and Linux: the install typed out in a terminal
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/AgriciDaniel/claude-seo.git
bash claude-seo/install.sh

One-liner (curl, review then run):

curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/AgriciDaniel/claude-seo/main/install.sh > install.sh
cat install.sh # review before running
bash install.sh
rm install.sh
Manual install: Windows (PowerShell)
Manual install: Windows (PowerShell): the install typed out in a terminal
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/AgriciDaniel/claude-seo.git
powershell -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File claude-seo\install.ps1

Why git clone instead of irm | iex? Claude Code's own security guardrails flag irm ... | iex as a supply chain risk: downloading and executing remote code without verification. The git clone approach lets you inspect claude-seo\install.ps1 before running it.

Two versions. This public version is MIT licensed and free for everyone. AI Marketing Hub Pro members also get a private version with early access to new features. Members install it with:

/plugin marketplace add AI-Marketing-Hub/claude-seo
/plugin install claude-seo@ai-marketing-hub-claude-seo
/seo setup

FAQ

What is Claude SEO?

A free, open-source SEO audit tool that runs inside Claude Code. It checks technical SEO, Core Web Vitals, content quality, Schema.org structured data, AI search readiness, local SEO, e-commerce and international SEO, then gives you a prioritized action plan. It follows Google's own documentation, including the AI Optimization Guide.

Is it really free?

Yes. It is MIT licensed, with no per-site pricing, no usage limits and no tracking. You only need Claude Code. A few optional extensions connect to paid services where you bring your own account, but everything works without them.

Do I need API keys?

No. Claude SEO works out of the box. If you want real field data, you can connect free Google APIs (PageSpeed Insights, Chrome UX Report, Search Console and Google Analytics 4) with /seo google setup. Your keys stay on your machine.

How does it help with AI search like Google AI Overviews and ChatGPT?

Google says optimizing for AI search is still SEO, so Claude SEO starts with the basics that AI answers rely on: being indexed, fast and clear. Then /seo geo scores how easy your pages are to quote, checks that AI crawlers can reach them and looks at your brand's presence on Wikipedia, Reddit, YouTube and LinkedIn. /seo agentic checks how well AI agents can use your site.

Does it work on JavaScript sites like Next.js, React or Vue?

Yes. When a page needs JavaScript to show its content, Claude SEO opens it in a headless browser automatically, so single-page apps are audited as visitors see them.

How is it different from Screaming Frog or other SEO tools?

Crawlers like Screaming Frog crawl faster and deeper, and big SEO suites have their own backlink databases. Claude SEO does something else: it explains what it finds, sorts it by impact, covers AI search in depth and lets you ask follow-up questions in plain English. Many people use both.

Does my data leave my computer?

Claude SEO runs inside Claude Code, so the pages and data it analyzes are sent to Claude, Anthropic's model, the same as anything else you work on in Claude Code. Reports are saved as files on your machine. No SEO service or other third party sees your data unless you connect an extension or API yourself. Besides the site you audit, some checks read public sources such as Wikipedia, Reddit and Common Crawl. See PRIVACY.md for the full list.

Good to know: requirements, limits and uninstall

Requirements. Claude Code 1.0.33 or newer and Python 3.11 to 3.14. /seo setup installs the headless browser for you.

Cost of a full audit. Five agents that need more judgment run on Opus and the rest on Sonnet, so a full /seo audit uses more of your Claude plan than a single-page check. You can change any agent's model in its file under agents/.

Limits. Without Google API keys, Core Web Vitals are lab estimates and indexing is inferred from the page. Pages that load key content only after scrolling or clicking can give noisy results.

Uninstall. Installed as a plugin: /plugin uninstall claude-seo@agricidaniel-claude-seo. Installed manually:

git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/AgriciDaniel/claude-seo.git
bash claude-seo/uninstall.sh

Extensions

Optional add-ons that bring in more data. Claude SEO works fully without them.

  • Banana: AI images for SEO, from social previews to blog heroes (Claude Banana)
  • SE Ranking: your share of voice in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI answers
  • Profound: tracks when AI models cite your site
  • Bing Webmaster: Bing data plus instant IndexNow submission
  • Unlighthouse: Lighthouse scores for every page of your site

  1. Security and accuracy fixes from a full audit, and Claude Desktop installs again. **Python 3.11 to 3.14 is now required.** Python 3.10 reached end of life on 2026-10-01, and the Pillow 13.0.0 security release (28 advisories, no 12.x backport) needs 3.11. Python 3.15 is not supported yet because the Google Ads client library declares `< 3.15`. If your default Python is outside the range, the launcher and `install.ps1` now pick a supported one on their own, or you can set `CLAUDE_SEO_PYTHON`; `/seo setup` then rebuilds the runtime once. ### Install or update ``` /plugin marketplace add AgriciDaniel/claude-seo /plugin install claude-seo@agricidaniel-claude-seo /plugin install seo-cockpit@agricidaniel-claude-seo # optional, needs Claude Code 2.1.287+ ``` Already installed? `claude plugin update claude-seo@agricidaniel-claude-seo` (auto-update is off by default for third-party marketplaces). If you use seo-cockpit, update it too: it now installs from its own branch, which is what lets Claude Desktop load claude-seo again (#344). ### Added - **Server stack CVE exposure check** in `seo-technical` (Security category). A read-only detection pass that flags a site running a server

  2. **seo-cockpit**, a new optional companion plugin built on Claude Code mods, plus Google sign-in through your own account and a schema-hook fix. ### Install or update ``` /plugin marketplace add AgriciDaniel/claude-seo /plugin install claude-seo@agricidaniel-claude-seo /plugin install seo-cockpit@agricidaniel-claude-seo # optional, needs Claude Code 2.1.287+ ``` Already installed? `claude plugin update claude-seo@agricidaniel-claude-seo` (auto-update is off by default for third-party marketplaces). ### Added - `plugins/seo-cockpit` 0.3.3: an optional mods companion plugin (Claude Code 2.1.287+), a second entry in the marketplace (`/plugin install seo-cockpit@agricidaniel-claude-seo`). - Spend guard: holds paid SEO API calls against the DataForSEO budget before they run (DataForSEO MCP tools and the Merchant script are priced by `dataforseo_costs.py`; Ahrefs, Firecrawl, image generation, Moz, Keywords Everywhere, Cloud NLP, the Indexing API, and curl or WebFetch calls to SE Ranking and Profound ask first). It fails closed and logs only successful priced calls. - Live audit band (agents running and done, findings written, spend, time), a receipt

  3. Claude SEO v2.4.1 is a patch release that brings Google guidance current through 2026-09-28, including the September 2026 spam update (started 2026-09-24 and still rolling out when this release was cut; Google named no target). Every changed fact was re-checked against its primary source, and claims that could not be confirmed on a Google-owned page, such as the SAFE detector or "link spam is excluded", are recorded as unverified so audits never state them as fact. The release went through two independent reviews, a clean-room verification run with live headless `/seo` sessions, and green CI on Linux, macOS and Windows (including PowerShell 5.1). ### Added - Ledger (`data/google-updates.json`): the September 2026 Spam Update (started 2026-09-24, still rolling out when this release was cut; Google estimates up to two weeks and named no target), the August 2025 Spam Update, VideoObject `creator` and the `interactionStatistic` action types, Search Console multimodal reporting, Merchant Center AI performance insights, the UCP integration hub cart transfer, Gemini 3.8 Flash in AI Mode for subscribers, and CrUX experimental ad metrics. - `unverified[]` entries so audits do

  4. Claude SEO v2.4.0 is a minor release. New `/seo agentic` scores Lighthouse's Agentic Browsing category exactly as Lighthouse counts it (fraction math reproduced from the 13.5.0 source) and audits the rest of agent readiness: the accessibility tree for agents, robots.txt groups and Content-Signal per AI agent, llms.txt, Markdown delivery, `ai-catalog.json`, `/.well-known` discovery files and WebMCP. Extension installers no longer put secrets on the command line or wipe a malformed `~/.claude.json`. Fixes #312, #314 and #317, adds the Matomo extension (#275), and re-verifies the skills' facts against primary sources. The release went through two independent audits, a verification pass and a random-input fuzz; the suite passes at every commit. ### Added - New `seo-agentic` sub-skill and `seo-agentic` audit agent (`/seo agentic [audit|fix|lighthouse|refresh] <url>`) for agent readiness. Three scripts: `lighthouse_agentic.py` reads the Lighthouse Agentic Browsing category through PSI v5 (`category=AGENTIC_BROWSING`) or a saved report and reproduces the report renderer's fraction exactly (N/A, manual and informative audits excluded, pass at score 0.9), with per-audit status a

  5. Claude SEO v2.3.1 is a patch release. Five judgment-heavy agents now run on Opus, Keywords Everywhere joins as a free backlinks fallback, setup failures show the failing stage's own output, every extension installer writes ~/.claude.json atomically and without a byte-order mark, and two scripts that v2.3.0 shipped unregistered are now reachable through the launcher. Windows, macOS, PowerShell 5.1, and pip-audit legs all passed on the release PR. ### Added - Keywords Everywhere (Open PageRank) as an optional, free-signup backlinks fallback source: a single 0-10 domain rank metric used for the Profile Overview section when Moz isn't configured. Wired through `backlinks_auth.py` (new `keywordseverywhere` service) and a new `keywordseverywhere_api.py` client, following the existing Moz/Bing auth and source patterns. The outbound call goes through the shared `url_safety.safe_requests_get` DNS-pinned helper, domains are normalized and SSRF-checked before use, and requests are capped at 100 domains per call. `keywordseverywhere_api.py` is registered in `runtime.py`'s `ALLOWED_CORE_SCRIPTS` (a script invoked from a SKILL.md but missing from that allowlist is refused b
