What Keychron-Keyboards-Hardware-Design does

This repository provides comprehensive hardware design assets for Keychron's extensive lineup of keyboards and mice. It releases the actual industrial CAD models in formats like STEP, DXF, DWG, and PDF, granting unprecedented access to the physical structure of these devices. The source-available nature of these files allows accessory makers and modders to design perfectly compatible cases, plates, and add-ons without relying on manual measurements. By explicitly allowing commercial use for original compatible accessories, it fosters a rich third-party hardware ecosystem. It bridges the gap between commercial hardware production and the DIY mechanical keyboard community.

Perfect for mechanical keyboard enthusiasts, 3D printing hobbyists, industrial designers, and third-party accessory manufacturers.

  • Extensive model library: Includes CAD assets for over 100 different Keychron keyboards and mice.
  • Multiple format support: Provides files in standard industrial formats like STEP, DXF, DWG, and PDF.
  • Source-available licensing: Allows free access to the exact dimensions and structures of the hardware.
  • Commercial accessory enablement: Explicitly permits using the files to create and sell compatible accessories.
  • Community modding foundation: Eliminates the guesswork for hardware enthusiasts building custom parts.

Where teams use it

Custom accessory manufacturing

Designing and producing custom palm rests, cases, or travel bags that fit perfectly.

Keyboard modding

Creating custom acoustic dampening foams or alternate switch plates based on exact DWG files.

3D printing parts

Using the STEP files to model and 3D print personalized replacement components.

Industrial design reference

Studying the internal layout and structural engineering of commercial mechanical keyboards.

Getting started: Browse the repository folders to find and download the CAD files for your specific Keychron model.

Why This Matters

Making production hardware files available is a meaningful contribution to the broader hardware and keyboard community.

  • It lowers the barrier to entry by giving hobbyists, students, and engineers real STEP and DXF files they can study, remix, and build from instead of starting from zero.
  • It expands what customization can mean. With access to case, plate, and component designs, the community can explore deeper hardware changes, new materials, structural tweaks, and original variations.
  • It offers real educational value. These are production-level designs, so people can learn from actual decisions around mounting systems, tolerances, and component integration.
  • It helps the ecosystem grow by enabling compatible accessories, modifications, and personal projects that build around existing designs.
  • It also reflects trust and transparency. Sharing internal design files signals confidence in the products and supports users as creators, not just customers.

The license is designed to support the ecosystem around Keychron products while still protecting Keychron's core hardware business. In practice, original compatible accessories and add-ons are not subject to the commercial-use restriction in this license, but copying and selling Keychron keyboards or mice, or trading on Keychron trademarks, is not allowed.

Contributing

Ways to contribute:

  • Fix dimensional errors or tolerances in existing models
  • Add ISO layout plate variants
  • Improve documentation and guides
  • Report issues with downloaded files

Note: This project is source-available. Original compatible accessories and add-ons are not subject to the commercial-use restriction in this license. By contributing, you agree your work falls under the same license.
